Chamaedorea glaucifolia
Chamaedorea glaucfolia
Natural Habitat: Naturally found throughout the understory rainforest in Mexico
Description: A slender solitary palm that can reach heights around 15 feet tall, but usually grows to around 8-10 feet in cultivation. The glaucfolia has a slender trunk that gives way to a small crownshaft. The crown emerges a full head of long branches that can be longer then the total height of the tree. The leaves are very thin, and shoot off the branch in several different angles giving in a feather like appearance. The leaves also have a subtle bluish tint that will make most take a double take after first seeing this palm
Like most member of the Chamaedorea family, the glaucfolia is a great palm to use as a potted plant. It’s short height, blue tinted leaves, and feather appearance makes it a great addition to any porch or sunroom. We suggest planting a few glaucfolia’s in a single decorative pot.
Environment: The glaucfolia enjoys a shady moist, and well-drained area, where it can be protected from any strong winds that can damage the thin leaves. This palm is also cold hardy and can take mild frost or freezes with temps in to the low 30’s. As a seedling, keep this palm in a shady protected area where it will get watered regularly.
