NATURAL HABITAT- The palm is naturally from Eastern New Guinea and its surrounding rivers. It grows in small populations in hilltops and by riversides.
CHARACTERISTICSThe palm is an understory palm that can reach more then 25 feet in height, and tends to have a very slender trunk. The palm has pinnate leaves that have a glossy appearance, giving it an almost plastic look. The new leaves come out a bright red and can last up to two weeks before the color starts to fade. The actual leaflets are cupped and down turned, almost creating a unique look and a lacrosse pouch like shape. The palm seeds are just now becoming available to collectors within the US, and should become a top priority for collectors.
TEMPERATURE ZONE- 9-10-11 The palm has been said to survive in temperatures as low as 10 degrees once established in the ground.
